Red Admiral Butterflies are Bountiful This Year

What I first thought to be a whole lot of Monarch butterflies turned out to be an invasion of Red Admiral butterflies instead. Having seen an awful lot of butterfly activity at my Mom’s house over the weekend, I noticed that i had an equally large number of the little creatures snacking on my lilac bushes. They are so beautiful to look at and do not cause any harm to plants or vegetation so simply enjoy them while they last. It has been reported that they migrate from the Golf Coast and die off as the weather gets cold. This years batch is about ten-fold what is normal for this time of year due to the warmer climate.

Earlier Seedlings a Lost Cause

As I had written earlier, my little “Bootsie” cat decided to munch on my new tomato seedlings, destroying most of them. In an effort to try to salvage them i probably over-watered them with some Miracle grow and ended up with only ONE plant that may or may not still survive.

Last night I pulled everything out except the yellow peppers that have sprouted and will be replanting new seeds today. With the temperature dipping into the low 30′s the last few evenings, it’s too early to put anything outside just yet, anyway.

Starting Over With A New Website

I decided to let my previous domain URL expire that had so many of my “projects” including hundreds of photos. I didn’t have any success in saving all the content and photos to import here but was able to save the photos. A lot of good that will do without remembering all of the content that went along with them! I’ll just have to move on.

Yesterday I discovered that the tomato and pepper seeds that I had planted in peat pots back on April 1st had been eaten by one of my cats who jumped up on the washer where they were sitting to get the daytime sunlight. needless to say i wasn’t real happy with my little ‘Bootsie”. The pepper seeds hadn’t sprouted yet but the Rutgers and plum tomatoes were about 3″ tall. I had about two dozen and what is left will still be sufficient to put in my self-watering containers.
